Good, obviously & with the usual caveats, but again the u-turn comes *after* pathetically pliant MPs have followed orders to describe it as impossible & abuse voters on Twitter. It’s astonishing how cheaply they sell whatever integrity they have.
New: Government u-turns on sewage amendment. Says the Environment Bill will be further strengthened with an amendment that will see “a duty enshrined in law to ensure water companies secure a progressive reduction in the adverse impacts of discharges from storm overflows.”
I just read my son his bedtime story (well, from my point of view, my time) before his breakfast and going off to school (his time). Our time zones may be upside down, but reading to him made me so happy.
That ludicrous Mike Graham clip. He obviously planned to ambush the interviewee about his occupation, figuring it will obviously have some anti environmental element, but when it hasn't he panics and plows on with the holed strategy anyway, his mind now a total blank.
“This ruined throne of kings, this sceptic tank, This earth-closet of mendacity, this cold seat of muck, dishonoured Eden, semi-detached, This fuck-up built by monsters for herself to breed infection and the hand of war, This nasty breed of men, this little, little world…
Twitter can be a mean ol’ place so thanks for all your kind words about episode one of The Outlaws. The show is a real labour of love for me, so your appreciation is appreciated. Episode Two also now up on @BBCiPlayer.
“It’s a neon-fuelled nightmare. Dark, but the darkness is juxtaposed with these incredibly bright flashes of colour. A realistic world, but one firmly set in a dream.” - @anyataylorjoy on @lastnightinsoho
Last Night In Hollywood. Such a magical night at the Academy Museum last night. To be reunited with Anya, Thomasin & @WeWriteAtDawn for the last premiere was really special. I'll also never get over the surreal experience of watching London onscreen in LA. Thanks to all who came.
I'm old enough to remember when Jacob Rees Mogg told us that fish would be happier post-Brexit because they were swimming in British waters. I think he omitted some important details.
Just had breakfast with very old friend. He was dressed soberly for office, wearing tie, jacket etc. But when we stood to leave he picked up a huge shiny gold tote bag. I said it looked a bit unusual. He said, “It was my wife's.” She had died three years earlier aged only 58. ❤️
Of my many great memories from last nights premiere, a heart bursting fav was seeing Anya Taylor-Joy break off from her red carpet duties to tell @sparksofficial how much she loved them. My worlds collide x
Not for the first time - or the last - I marvel at the way people who proclaim their ‘patriotism’ at every turn are presiding over the deliberate & obvious denigration of our country’s standing & reputation. Great thread, as always from @tconnellyRTE.
Some damning testimony from @alexhallhall, former Brexit counselor at the British Embassy in Washington who resigned in 2019 over having to perpetrate what she saw as increasing disingenuous UK lines on Brexit, esp on NI, once @BorisJohnson took over https://t.co/BwEZ2EwNJP
Really important - and not a little humbling - to hear how my coverage of Sajid Javid's comments about NHS vaccine passports sounded to this A&E nurse. An uncomfortable moment. Thank you, @Karenlovecheese.
James O'Brien apologises to this A&E nurse after she says government are 'ramping up hatred and division' by using NHS vaccine mandates to deflect from their pandemic failures.
Wonderful evening at the British @KebabAwards. Amazed & not a little saddened to see how many Tory MPs ate them with a knife & fork. But I was very brave & didn’t let it spoil my evening. Congratulations to all the nominees & a huge thank you to @ibrahim_Dogus & his team.
Attending the @beyondfest #LastNightInSoho screening tonight? Not only will @mondonews have copies of the soundtrack LP for sale in the lobby, but they’ll also be giving away copies of this incredible 2 track promotional 7” single, featuring “Downtown” by @anyataylorjoy. 1/2
And here's the whole family, proud to premiere #LastNightInSoho along with Anya, Thomo, @WeWriteAtDawn, my longtime associate producer Leo Thompson and my producer for 22 years now, Nira Park. I would be nothing without them.
